Cars Mater and Lightning McQueen Cool Cake

The "Cars" cake revisited!  Since I'm me, and I just wanted to do something different, I came up with this idea for a "Cars" cake.  I think it helped that we went to Disneyland recently and I LOVED CarsLand.  I wanted to do a little more detail but just ran out of time.

Stacked tires, Mater, Lightning, Casa Della Tires.  What more does a little boy need?!

The little scrolls on the canopy.  I wanted to do more with this and the window, but alas, my kids needed dinner!
I love Mater!  He's totally edible, as is the whole cake!
This cake was for two little brothers who have birthdays within weeks of each other.  The tiny cake was the 1 year old's smash cake.  I hope he made a very good mess of himself!  Happy birthday, Elijah and Jeremiah!  Two ADORABLE little boys!

Disneyland Castle Cake

Okay, this cake was an UNDERTAKING!!!!  I even started out with 'blueprints'.  I should have taken a picture of that!  I had to know how many pieces I needed to make and where they were going to go once they were made.  I was a little obsessive on this cake.  I wanted it to be as close to the real thing as possible!

See all the pieces?!  And yes, I used chap stick, a pen, a vanilla bottle and various sizes of paper towel cardboard tubes to make the towers.  Use what you can.  (NO TOILET PAPER ROLLS WERE USED!!!)
Rice Krispie treats for some of the pieces, and fudge striped cookies for in-between the tower pieces.
Hand made rocks and decorating gel make the water and finish the look!

Aerial view!  (It was hard to find an aerial picture of the real Disneyland castle to figure this part out!)

Close up of some of the detail.
I was asked if it was worth it when I was done making this cake.  Yes it was!  I love Disneyland and creating this was a little piece of Disneyland in my home.  It was hard work, and heavy and SOOO time consuming, but how fabulous I felt when the birthday girl saw it!  She wouldn't let it out of her sight, and had to help me carry it to the table.  As I've said before, it's the reactions like that that make it ALL WORTH it for me!!!
Happy Birthday, Ryleigh!!!

Ipad, Guitar, Book Birthday Cake

I don't really know what to call this cake, but it was REALLY fun to make!  (I think I always say that about my cakes.)  The request included a guitar (with Gibson included), an Ipad or computer, and some sort of teasing effect about turning 30.  Well, this is what evolved.  And I have to say, all the meaning and thought that was put into this cake is what was the best part.

After making the cake I found out Gibson is the name of the couple's little baby boy who passed away.  It really made my day to make them something that had such a tender meaning!  It also made me really think and appreciate the five beautiful, healthy children I've been blessed with.  Life is so precious!
The book I was fashioning after.
Close up of the icons on the Ipad.  April 9th is his birthday, thus the 9 for the date!
Really a fun, unique cake.  I'm so glad I got to be part of such a thoughtful gift from a loving wife to her amazing husband!  Happy Birthday, Todd!
Oh, and the flavor?  Peanut butter fudge brownie texture cake, with creaming peanut butter fudge frosting and Reeces' Peanut Butter cups and hot fudge filling!  It SMELLED SO GOOD!
